Area-level Parking Management Plans (APMPs)
Parking on most streets in most Indian cities is unmanaged and haphazard. City of Coimbatore is no more an exception. Our limited road space should be prioritised for movement for all street users, especially walking, cycling, public transport, loading and unloading of goods and recreation. Adopting Strategic Parking Area Management Plans (PAMP) help to reclaim our city roads. An area level parking management plan lays out rules for every street, and aims to efficiently use the available on-street and off-street parking.
Drafting a PAMP starts with a thorough and in-depth on-site survey that gathers all data related to parking, both on-street and off-street. This takes into account the free and available spaces, as well as the intended purpose of the surrounding areas. The surveyed areas are then divided into dedicated regions that are used in an integrated manner rather than in isolation.
This project aims to develop the PAMP for the Race Course neighbourhood in Coimbatore.
